Mercer Island, WA “Patch” to which I often contribute.

Mercer Island's Lively AOL OnLineNewspaper- News, Sports, Events, Businesses & Deals

Of special interest to me. of course, is Patch’s featuring
of Mercer Island homes. At last count I had done over
4o custom homes over the many years I’ve been doing
custom home design on this lovely wooded Island with
some 22,000 people surrounded by Lake Washington.

A Bit About Mercer Island, WA-

where I've long practiced Residential Architecture

It’s a community of 22,ooo people nestled in as many trees.
There are many nice Mid-Century Modern homes. I’ve been
updating more and more of these as they are discovered for
the treasures they are- or could be w/ my careful updating.
If you see a home you like, a wise move is to make an offer
….. “subject to the Approval of Jerry Gropp Architect AIA”.

Updating your “MCM” bargain-

on using your price savings to update your purchase.

Those who took advantage of the recent down market to buy good “Mid-Century Modern” homes are using their fortunately lowered price savings to update their new property. If you live in the Puget Sound Area, call me or send me an eMail. I’d be happy to advise you if I can be of help in making your new home fit you better. JG

Some “NorthWest Contemporary” Family Homes by Jerry Gropp AIA PS- long-time Residential Architect-

an experienced Seattle Area residential architect specializing in contemporary homes.

First of all, it should be understood that not all architects specialize in Home Design as I have for many years.
After working for large architectural firms I decided I liked working with families such as my own to create the best possible living enviroments. Not surprisingly I’ve been called upon to design other architects own homes. Co-practicioners recognize that big-building design practice is not the same.

Updating of modern homes, (mine & other designers’), has become an increasingly important part of my design practice. By virtue of their careful design and detailing, these are true “Craftsman” homes- (often a really good value in these recent down but improving “Foreclosure days”).

As I’ve described below, I’ve done many before-sale, less-formal surveys of these under-purchase consideration properties covering house condition(s) as well as remodeling and/or updating possibilities. This is especially good to know in advance of completing the sale.

Many people make the Earnest Money”subject to the Inspection and approval of Jerry Gropp Architect AIA” (especially business people moving here to the NorthWest).
It’s a very practical way to deal with today’s Real Estate market.

Apartments- I did a lot of these before specializing in single-family custom homes.

JG on Brightly-Painted MCMs

Is this the way to treat a "Mid-Century Modern?

These were usually characterized by all stained wood in
soft natural earth tone colors. I guess it all depends if one
wants to blend in with the neighborhood & the neighbors-
or stand out. JG

Metal Roofs-

Here's one I added-

to a home I had earlier
designed. After the rainy
NW Winter we’ve had, it
seems a lot more home-
owners are looking into
these good answers to
keeping warm and dry.

1962 Seattle World’s Fair

BE interviewing a much younger architect

I was explaining about all the keen architecture
that 1962 World’s Fairgoers could expect to see.
